The following are summaries compiled by Debbie Griffin of action taken at the Sept. 15 meeting of the Princeton School Board.

Committee reports to include summaries
Board Chair Deb Ulm said recent comments about openness had prompted discussions about having committee chairpersons do a summary report for the board so that members know more about what is happening in each committee. She said it was important to rely on the committee structure, since everyone couldn’t be everywhere at once but said the board will work on its communication.

Board-minute details advisably brief
Board Member Chuck Nagle said he was pleased to see more notes in the finance committee minutes and asked if more details could also be added to regular board meeting minutes. He was told that the meeting minutes are done according to state standards, which advise that a recorder take down the motions and not great detail, since the descriptions and wording can themselves become a point of argument.

Initial enrollment exceeds projections
The board looked at early-year enrollment numbers, acknowledging that they can change and sometimes drop in early October and then stabilize. Business Services Director Michelle Czech said the budget had been developed using a projected number of 3,146 students, and actual numbers showed 3,254 students had enrolled: 690 at South Elementary, 751 at North Elementary, 750 at the Middle, and 1,063 at the High School. Czech said it was the best enrollment numbers she could remember in years.
